69Hollywood came out of São Paulo's underground in 1980 with a raw, energetic sound. The original lineup had Cizo on vocals, Gilson on guitar, Zé Carlos on bass, and Paulo on drums. Their song 'Balada Rock N' Roll' became an anthem for young listeners in the 1980s, with lyrics that openly embraced sexuality and hedonism.
They released three albums during their most active period: '69Hollywood' in 1984, 'Rock Brasil' in 1988, and 'Ao Vivo no Circo Voador' in 1989. The band's membership shifted over time, after Gilson left in 1983, Fábio Campos joined on guitar, and other players like Ronaldo 'Billy' on keyboards and Tavinho on guitar came through.
That directness, along with songs like 'Novos Lábios,' gave them a cult following among listeners looking for something outside the mainstream.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
