7 Copas formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1997, a Brazilian band that mixed samba, pop, and funk. Their debut album came out in 2001, and the single "Louco Pra Te Ver" turned into a national hit. They followed it with other songs like "Fé No Sonho" and "Pequitown."
Their lineup included Leandro Lehart on vocals and guitar, Luiz Carlos on vocals and percussion, Mauricio Maldonado on drums, Marcus Vinicius on bass, and Marcelo Mira on keyboards. They put out several albums through the 2000s, including "Apaixonado" in 2005 and "Brilha" in 2007.
At times their lyrics and performances drew criticism, and they had a legal dispute over song rights in 2003. But they kept playing and released a live album in 2009. Their sound stayed rooted in those upbeat Brazilian styles that first got people dancing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
