7 Doors Down formed in Georgia in 1995 with Adam Gontier on lead vocals and guitar, Brad Arnold on vocals and drums, Dave Keuning on lead guitar, and Matt Roberts on bass. They released their self-titled debut album in 2000, which included the song "Kryptonite." The band has put out seven studio albums, including "The Great Escape" in 2002, "Revelation" in 2005, and "Sound of Silence" in 2006.
In 2011, they released "Erasing Rainbows," a track that drew criticism for lyrics some interpreted as homophobic. The band denied any ill intent, saying the song was meant as a metaphor about the harm caused by hurtful words. Their current lineup includes Justin Biltonen on guitar and backing vocals alongside the original members.
