7 Seals formed in Helsinki, Finland in 1999. The band included vocalist Mikko Heikkilä, guitarist Tomi Koivusaari, bassist Janne Hartikainen, and drummer Samuel Salonen. They played melodic death metal at a time when opportunities for metal bands in Finland were limited, and they built their following through live performances.
Their debut album was called "The Devil's Playground." They later released albums titled "Parasite" and "The Order of the Black." Their songs often dealt with themes of betrayal and loss, as heard in tracks like "A Fateful Conspiracy - As Fate Decends On Sifrit" and "Fortune And Deceit - Twain Marriages And The Betrayal."
Some listeners criticized the band's lyrics for what they saw as nihilism or anti-religious sentiment. 7 Seals maintained that their music simply reflected darker aspects of human experience. Their work, including songs such as "Dawn of Winter" and "Moribund - Every Kingdom Has To Pass," found an audience among fans of atmospheric, melodic metal.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
