In 1994, their debut single "Shimmy Shake" became a hit, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's catchy beat made it a staple on radio and in clubs at the time.
After Lil' J and Smooth B left in 1997 to go solo, Big Baby D and Chilly B kept the group going with other rappers.
By the early 2000s, the 740 Boyz had faded from the mainstream, though they put out a few more records. Their story is mostly remembered for that one big song and the lineup changes that followed.
