77 RPM formed in Madrid in 1981 with Javier Andreu on vocals and guitar, Toni Urbano on guitar, Felipe Lipe on bass, and Tony Urbano on drums. They took their name from the speed of a vinyl record. Early on, they played small clubs while trying to find their place in a rock scene that leaned heavily toward English-language acts.
Their debut album 'Suenan las Alarmas' came out in 1984 and included the song 'Si o No,' which became a hit in Spain and reached charts in some Latin American countries. The track's mix of rock balladry and direct lyrics connected with listeners. Other songs like 'Al Filo de Lo Posible' and 'Mientes' also became part of their set.
After their breakthrough, they released albums like 'No Nos Moverán' and 'El Mar de Silencio,' keeping a rock foundation while touching on blues and Latin rhythms. Toni Urbano left in 1989 but returned in 2009, while Andreu, Lipe, and Tony Urbano stayed with the band through most of its run. They've put out eight studio albums along with live recordings and compilations.
