The name 8 Mile comes from the road in Detroit that separates the city from its suburbs. The group was centered around the rapper Eminem, who grew up in the area, along with Proof and DJ Head. Their early material, like the track '313 Freestyle,' came directly from that environment.
In 2002, they released 'Lose Yourself' for the film '8 Mile.' The song became a massive hit and won an Academy Award. It's the track most people know, but their catalog includes other songs like '8 Mile Road' and 'I Live At Home In A Trailer' that reflect their origins more directly.
The group disbanded after Proof's death in 2006. Eminem continued as a solo artist, and the remaining members reunited briefly for a performance in 2022.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
