88NÃO! formed in 1982 in the suburbs of São Paulo with four friends: Pedro Luís on vocals and guitar, Márcio Mallandro on bass, Paulinho Lessa on drums, and Eduardo Magnum on guitar. Their sound pulled from punk and hardcore but kept a Brazilian feel, avoiding easy categorization. Their debut album 'O Subúrbio' came out in 1983 and included the track 'Rock de Subúrbio,' which quickly became an anthem for working-class youth in the area.
The band was known for raucous, confrontational live shows. They followed up with albums like 'Jóia Rara' in 1985 and 'Que Beleza' in 1987, maintaining a steady output through the decade.
Eduardo Magnum left in the late 1990s and was replaced by guitarist Alexandre Lamas. Pedro Luís, Márcio Mallandro, and Paulinho Lessa have stayed involved as founding members. Other songs in their catalog include 'Agitar,' 'Horas,' and 'Tentando entender.'
