98 Degrees formed in Cincinnati in 1996 with Nick Lachey, Jeff Timmons, Justin Jeffre, and Drew Lachey. Their self-titled debut album came out the next year, featuring the single "Because Of You." That record went triple platinum, which gave them a solid start in the late-90s boy band scene.
Their second album, 98 Degrees and Rising, included "I Do (Cherish You)," a ballad that spent two weeks at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. They also put out a Christmas album in 1999 and another studio record called Revelation in 2000. Nick Lachey left to work on solo material around 2002, and the group released an album called 2.0 without him that same year.
They stopped recording together for a while after that, but got back together to play some shows in 2020. Songs like "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)" and "Stay The Night" still turn up on playlists from that era.
