9MM formed in Mexico City in 2001 with Edgar Oceransky on vocals and guitar, Max Chinasky on drums, Arturo Oviedo on bass, and Manuel 'Pato' López on guitar. Their sound mixed rap and rock, with lyrics that often addressed social issues like poverty and corruption. Songs like 'Bajo El Ojo de Dios' and 'Marcados Por La Muerte' carried that direct, confrontational tone.

They released several albums including Bajo el Ojo de Dios in 2004, La Madrugada in 2006, Crucifijo in 2009, and La Reina de las Trampas in 2012. Their music drew criticism at times for being too radical, but it also found an audience that responded to its urgency. Tracks like 'Derecho a Elegir' and 'Requiem' continued in that vein.

Beyond recording, the band participated in social activism and environmental campaigns. Their work resonated particularly with younger listeners in Mexico and elsewhere who connected with its political charge. The music wasn't subtle, it was meant to provoke and engage directly with the world around it.
