9voltclub formed in Belgium in 1999 as an electronic trio with Hervé Drost on vocals and keyboards, Dominique Gielen on keyboards, and Kristof De Beir on drums. Their sound pulled from techno, minimal wave, and industrial textures, which earned them a cult following rather than mainstream attention. They put out albums like Pesadelo in 2002, Futura in 2006, Death to the Machine in 2010, and Barbaric Heart in 2013.

Their track Pesadelo, from that 2002 album, became something of a signature piece, a slow, atmospheric cut with ethereal vocals and a hypnotic rhythm that felt both unsettling and oddly absorbing. Another song, Wish, carried a similar mood. The band's lyrics often leaned surreal or introspective, which sometimes drew criticism from listeners expecting more straightforward electronic fare.

The music stayed rooted in that shadowy, industrial-tinged electronic space, and they never really broke out beyond a dedicated niche audience.
