A Lisbon group working within the Portuguese fado tradition, with songs about longing and melancholy.
For a sense of their sound, try 'Promessas' or 'Um Cara Muito Esperto.' They're straightforward fado songs with that familiar melancholy pull.
They formed in Lisbon around 2005 and started with street performances before recording 'Fado em Mim' in 2007. Songs like 'Promessas' and 'Mentiras Que Eu Criei' work within the fado tradition, though some listeners have questioned how traditional their approach really is. They've kept performing in Portugal and elsewhere in Europe regardless.
The group began with vocalist Ana Sofia Varela and guitarists Frederico Pereira and Hélder Moutinho. Pereira left in 2015, but Varela and Moutinho continued, putting out albums including 'Alma Viva' in 2013 and 'Promessas' in 2017.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
