Liverpool synth-pop band whose 'I Ran' became an early MTV staple.
If you only know 'I Ran,' check out 'Space Age Love Song' next. It's got the same synth drive but a softer, almost sadder melody that rounds out the picture.
When 'I Ran (So Far Away)' hit in 1982, that opening synth riff and Mike Score's gravity-defying haircut became shorthand for the whole early MTV aesthetic. 'Space Age Love Song' from the same period showed they could blend new wave energy with a surprisingly wistful pop melody. Decades later, that single still lands in every 80s nostalgia playlist and movie soundtrack, instantly pulling you back to a specific moment.
They formed in Liverpool in 1979, with Paul Reynolds joining on guitar a year later. After 'I Ran' and 'Space Age Love Song' made them MTV fixtures, they released four albums by 1985, but Reynolds left in 1983. Mike Score has kept the name alive for live shows ever since, with later tracks like 'The More You Live The More You Love' continuing in their synth-pop lane.
