A Friend In London formed in London in 2005, with Holly Humberstone and Christopher Willes as founding members. Their debut album 'New Tomorrow' came out in 2007, featuring the title track that became a breakout hit. The band's sound centered on Humberstone's vocals and Willes's guitar work.
After Humberstone left temporarily in 2009 to pursue solo work, Willes took over lead vocals. The band continued releasing albums, including 'Ephemeral' in 2011 and 'The Life of the World to Come' in 2014. Their lineup eventually included Paul Pledge on guitar, Tom Dring on bass, and Harry Sullivan on drums.
Their songs like 'The Light' and 'New Tomorrow' explored themes of love and loss with an introspective quality. While some critics found their sound too melancholic, they maintained a loyal following who connected with their emotional depth.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
