Background notes

Archive material and source history

A Life Once Lost came out of the New Jersey hardcore scene with a sound built on heavy breakdowns and some melodic touches. Their debut album was "Planetary Devastation," and they followed it with records like "Ecstatic Trance," "Hunter," and "Iron Gag." The core lineup had Robert Meadows on vocals, Doug Szot on guitar, Justin Foley on bass, and David Strauchman on drums.

Their 2007 album "Rehashed" gave them a bit of a breakthrough, with the title track becoming one of their better-known songs. They also had tracks like "Pain & Panic," "Gentle & Elegant," and "Gnawing Lisp" that showed their mix of aggression and more intricate playing.

Meadows left the band in 2013, and while the other members kept going for a while, that original lineup didn't come back together. Their music, especially from that mid-2000s period, still gets mentioned by people who follow that corner of heavy music.
