Archive material and source history

A Palo Seko formed in Málaga in 1977, during a period when Spanish rock was finding its footing. Their first album came out in 1979, simply called 'A Palo Seko,' and they followed it with records like 'Rocío' in 1982, 'Caña' in 1984, and 'Azahara' in 1986. The band included José Manuel Díez on vocals, Rafael Mora on guitar, José Miguel Fernández on bass, and Antonio Brunet on drums.

Their sound pulled from rock, flamenco, and Arabic rhythms, which gave them a distinct place in the Spanish music landscape of the time. One of their best-known songs is 'Clausula,' from 1982, which became something of an anthem in Andalusia. Other tracks like 'Come On!' and 'Dirty South (Uh-Huh)' show the range they worked with.

Their lyrics sometimes touched on social or political themes, which drew both criticism and a dedicated following. They kept recording through the 1980s, and their music has remained part of the conversation about Andalusian rock since.
