A Promessa formed in Brazil in 1992, playing Christian music that drew from Brazilian rhythms and pop. Their debut album 'Ao Único' came out that same year, with the title track becoming a staple in their sets. They followed it with 'Eu Navegarei' in 1995, and the two songs are often paired as a medley in performances.
Lucas Souza handled vocals and guitar, writing much of their material. Thiago Big played bass, Júnior Souza was on drums, and Marcus Salles added keyboards and occasional vocals. Their 2000 album was called 'Obrigado', and they released 'Restauração' in 2003. Another song from their catalog is 'Sobre a Rocha'.
They put out a live album in 2008. The band's straightforward approach to faith-based music found an audience in Brazil's Christian community, though they faced some early skepticism about their style.
