A Salty Dog formed in Southampton, England in 1969, with Gary Wright on vocals and keyboards, Mike Pinder on bass, and Tony Cox on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1970, anchored by the title track 'A Salty Dog' and other songs like 'Juicy John Pink' and 'Pilgrims Progress.'
They followed with 'The Golden Ocean' in 1971 and 'Every Dog Has Its Day' in 1973, keeping to maritime themes that ran through much of their work. Pinder left the band in 1972, and John G. Perry joined on bass afterward.
A Salty Dog broke up in 1975. They reunited for some live shows in the early 2000s.
