Background notes

Archive material and source history

A Thousand Horses is a country quartet from Nashville with Michael Hobby on lead vocals and guitar, Zach Brown on guitar, Bill Satcher on bass, and Graham DeLoach on drums. They put out their first album, Southernality, in 2015. That record had their breakout single, "(This Ain't No) Drunk Dial," which went to number one on the Country Airplay chart. Another track from that period, "Smoke," was a slower, atmospheric ballad that got some attention.

In 2021 they released a second album called Broken Lines, which felt more introspective compared to the honky-tonk energy of their debut. The band has kept a fairly low profile since then, playing shows here and there but without much new material. They're one of those groups that had a couple of radio hits and then settled into the background of the Nashville scene.
