A Transgressão formed in São Paulo with César de Lima on vocals, João Luiz on guitar, Edgard Scandurra on bass, and Maurício Peixoto on drums. Their debut album 'Constrói e Destrói' came out in 1988, followed by 'Anarquia e Democracia' in 1989 and 'Rumo ao Caos' in 1991.
Their music drew attention for lyrics that touched on social inequality and other difficult subjects, which sometimes led to protests at their shows. The band's sound was built around distorted guitar work and aggressive delivery, heard on tracks like 'Industrial Village Lover' and 'Down Screams'.
They went through some lineup changes over time, but those early records established them as part of Brazil's punk scene in the late 80s and early 90s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
