A Ultima Banda formed in Porto, Portugal in the late 1980s, with vocalist Manuel Bandeira at the front. Their debut album 'O Último Concerto' came out in 1990. The following year, they released the song 'Esqueça,' which became their most recognized track. The spare arrangement and melancholic tone of 'Esqueça' connected with listeners in Portugal, though some critics questioned its lyrical themes.
After parting ways with their record label in 1993, the band continued independently, touring and putting out albums on their own. They released six studio albums between 1990 and 2003, including 'Lisboa' in 1993 and 'Silêncio' in 2000. Another track, 'Notas Avulsas,' appears among their top songs. Their sound drew from Portuguese folk traditions while incorporating elements of post-punk and ambient music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
