Editor's note

A1's polished pop harmonies and reunion comeback

The London quartet behind 'Like a Rose' and 'Walking In The Rain' reunited after a decade apart.

If you want to hear them at their peak, put on 'Like a Rose.' For their later, slightly more reflective side, try 'Walking In The Rain.'

They were one of those late-90s boy bands that actually had some vocal chops, not just choreography. 'Like a Rose' was the hit that put them on the map, but songs like 'Walking In The Rain' showed they could handle more mature pop arrangements. The fact that they came back with 'Rediscovered' in 2018 says something about the staying power of that sound.

They formed in London in 1998 with the original four members. Paul Marazzi left in 2002, but the rest kept recording through the mid-2000s before taking a break. The 2018 reunion tour and 'Rediscovered' album brought them back with reworked versions of their earlier material.

A1 formed in London in 1998 with Christian Ingebrigtsen, Mark Read, Paul Marazzi, and Ben Adams. Their debut album 'Here We Come' included the single 'Like a Rose,' which became a hit. In 2002, Marazzi left the group, but the remaining members continued recording and performing.

They had songs like 'Walking In The Rain' and 'Take Back Yesterday' that leaned into polished pop harmonies. A leaked video in 2009 led to some public criticism and a temporary break from activity.

In 2018, they did a reunion tour. Their album 'Rediscovered' featured reworked versions of earlier material along with some new tracks.
