Abacates Valvulados formed in Rio de Janeiro during the 1980s with Zé Renato on vocals and guitar, Rodrigo Santos on drums, Fred Nascimento on guitar, and Luís Fernando Benedini on bass. Their first album came out in 1986, followed by several others including Geral É O Bicho in 1988 and O Baú do Raul in 1991.
Their 1993 album Agite e Dance included the song "Alfredo," which became a hit in Brazil. Other tracks like "O Canto Relapso" and "Portas Fechadas" show their mix of rock, samba, and funk with lyrics that could be both humorous and politically charged.
They kept recording through the 1990s with albums like 1000 Anos de Beat in 1995 and Vagabundo in 1997. The band's lineup has changed since those early years, but they've continued performing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
