Abakath came out of Brasília's underground in the mid-1980s with a thrash metal sound that felt raw and urgent. Their debut album in 1986 included 'Mais Rápido,' a track that caught on nationally and gave them a foothold. They followed it with albums like Hellfire in 1988 and Kingdom of Fear in 1993, moving between darker themes and a return to heavier playing after some melodic experiments.
The band's lineup shifted over time, with Claudio Vasconcelos on vocals and Eloy Casagrande on drums among those who passed through. Their songs often carried titles that suggested a rough, everyday edge, 'Borocotofo da Vida,' 'Maionese de Domingo,' 'Hoje Eu Não Acordei Porque Não Durmi.' They kept working in the thrash vein, pulling in bits of hardcore and punk without smoothing out the aggression.
By the 2000s they had a compilation called Pure XIII out, collecting rarities. Their music stayed rooted in that early Brasília thrash energy, the kind that made 'Mais Rápido' an anthem for a certain slice of Brazilian metal.
