ABC-Cabaret formed in 1973 with Thomas Acda on vocals, Paul de Munnik on guitar, and Kasper van Kooten playing multiple instruments. Their music mixed cabaret, pop, and folk, with songs like 'Blij gebleven' and 'Het Lied Der Middelmatigheid' showing their knack for melodic wit and slightly subversive lyrics.
They put out several albums in the 1970s, including 'De Troubadour' in 1974 and 'De Tovertuin' in 1977. The band's approach drew some criticism for being too cynical or vulgar at times, but they kept working without much compromise until they split up in 1983.
In 2004, ABC-Cabaret got back together for a few concerts. Their songs still pop up in Dutch music circles, remembered for that particular blend of cabaret storytelling and pop melody they had in the 70s.
