Abdala

Abdala formed in São Paulo in the early 2000s with Ícaro Mendes on vocals, André Salata on guitar, and Caio D'Amato on drums. Their early material had a raw, aggressive quality, but the sound shifted when bassist Pedro Campos joined around 2010, adding more melody. They put out their first album, 'Ritual,' in 2012.

Their track 'Quando o Mal Chegar' came out in 2017 and drew some attention for its video, which used religious imagery in a way that upset certain conservative viewers. The band defended the work as a statement against hypocrisy. They followed with albums like 'Luz Infernal' in 2015 and 'Malefactor' in 2018, showing a continued move toward a more layered, melodic approach within their metal framework.

By the time of their last known lineup, Mendes and Salata were still with the group. They worked through the usual small-band struggles, lineup shifts, money issues, the general friction of being a metal act in Brazil, without much fanfare, keeping to their own path.
