Able Cain

Able Cain formed in New York in 1988, with vocalist and guitarist Johnny Able and bassist Randy Cain at the center. They came up through the city's underground scene, playing a raw mix of punk, metal, and blues that slowly built a cult following. Their debut album 'Fire Flower' arrived in 1991, and its title track became a breakout hit, pushing the band into wider recognition.

In 1993, the band got tangled in a legal fight with a former manager over who owned their music. The dispute dragged on for years before Able Cain eventually won back control of their catalog. They kept making records after that, putting out albums like 'Bloodlust' in 1994, 'Dreamer' in 1998, and 'Blackstone' in 2018. The lineup shifted around Able and Cain over time, with players like guitarist Dave Rat and drummer Tim Kent passing through.

Their sound stayed grounded in heavy guitars and Able's distinctive voice, moving between the darker themes of 'Bloodlust' and the more personal territory of 'Dreamer.' They never became a mainstream fixture, but the song 'Fire Flower' and a handful of others stuck with a dedicated set of listeners who responded to the band's unpolished energy.
