Their 1997 album 'Tormented' drew attention for its graphic cover art, which showed a dismembered corpse. Other albums included 'Seminal Vampires and Maggot Men' in 1998 and 'Gore Obsessed' in 2007. The lineup changed over time, with guitarists Rob Caggiano and Danny Coralles and drummers Mike Smith and Paul Mazurkiewicz playing in the band at different points.
Abscess developed a cult following among extreme metal listeners. Their later work included 'Abominations of Desolation' in 2018. Songs like 'The Rotting Land' and '16 Horrors' maintained the band's focus on dark themes and heavy sound throughout their recordings.
