Archive material and source history

Absense was a British electronic rock band that formed in Reading in 1997. The group was led by vocalist Darren Hayes, with guitarist Mark Smith, bassist Mark O'Shea, and drummer Paul Martin. They released their debut album 'Soul' in 2000, which included the song 'I'll Cast the First Stone.'

That track became their most recognizable work, earning a BRIT Award nomination for British Single of the Year. The band's lineup changed over time, with Toby Smith joining on guitar in 2003 and James Sanger on drums in 2006.

Absense released three more albums after 'Soul': 'Asylum' in 2003, 'Fragile' in 2006, and 'Lost and Found' in 2008. The band disbanded that same year.
