Absolute Beginner formed in Bristol in 1986. The group included Paul Ferguson, Andy Wonder, Dean Rodney, and Peter Walsh. They played a mix of funk, soul, and hip-hop that didn't fit neatly into one category, which made it hard for them to find an easy place in the scene at first.
Their song "All Night Long" became a dance floor staple. They also recorded tracks like "Burna" and "Hammerhart." Their debut album came out in 1989, followed by others like "Loose Ends" in 1992 and "Dog on a Chain" in 1995.
They worked with other artists from Bristol, including Massive Attack. The band's sound helped shape some of what came out of that city in the early 1990s.
