AC de Paula formed in 2003 around singer-songwriter Anderson de Paula, who had been performing solo in Belo Horizonte since the mid-1990s. The band took its name from his initials and included guitarists Pedro Dantas and Humberto Effe, bassist Fabio Sá, and drummer Sidinho Moreira.
Their 2006 debut album 'Canto Minado' gave them their breakthrough, with the title track becoming a hit. The album mixed rock, samba, and Brazilian folk, a sound that carried through later releases like 'O Meu Lugar' (2009), 'Lágrimas Azuis' (2012), and 'Amar É Crime' (2016).
Their songs often dealt with social themes, which drew some criticism even as their popularity grew.
