Aca Lukas formed in Belgrade in 1996 around frontman Aleksandar 'Aca' Lukas, with Dragan 'Gagi' Đorđević on accordion, Milan 'Mimi' Milenković on trumpet, and Miroslav 'Miša' Nikolić on bass. They played what's often called Serbian folk-pop, with Lukas writing most of the material.
Their 2001 song 'A Kada Odem' became particularly well-known, a ballad about lost love that got regular airplay. Other tracks like 'Ako Mislis da Sam' and 'Balkan Express' also found an audience. They released albums through the 2000s, including 'Srce koje voli' in 2004 and 'Od srca do srca' in 2007.
The group maintained it was simply an expression of patriotism. Over time, other musicians like Nemanja 'Miki' Nikolić on keyboards and Mile Jandrić on drums joined the lineup.
