Academia da Voz

Academia da Voz formed in the 1970s in Santos, Brazil, as a group of devout Catholics who wanted to spread their faith through music. They drew from traditional Brazilian rhythms to create songs that spoke to spiritual needs, with early members including Toninho on lead vocals, Netinho on vocals and guitar, Wilson on vocals and bass, and Lula Barbosa on drums.

Their 1979 album "Guardando a Fé" gave them their signature song of the same name, which became a staple in Brazilian Catholic communities. Other tracks like "Herói da Fé," "Somos Limpos," and "A Igreja Cresceu" followed similar themes of faith and perseverance, delivered through straightforward melodies and earnest vocals.

While some critics found their approach too simple or overtly religious, the band maintained their focus on positive messages. They continued releasing albums through the 1980s and early 1990s, including "Santo Forte" in 1981 and "Em Nome de Jesus" in 1993, keeping their musical style consistent with their original purpose.
