May I introduce myself

I’m MC Professor Will

I’m not here to reinvent the wheel

But with a bit of patience we might understand a few

Of causes and effects and what’s the deal

About poverty and economic failure

When policies based on good intentions gets real

The minimum wage intends to provide

Better pay for the workers, so they can live decent lives

But when the joint in the corner is forbidden to hire

For less than a minimum, they have to deprive

The young and the unexperienced from the opportunity to learn and acquire

The skills that are required

Further up, when they try to make in in life, what did they find?

A bunch of shut doors with the unions sign

Cause the truth is that any given law, when it’s signed

Is actually about the prohibitions implied

The right to education is a beautiful thing

The UN’s shiny diamond ring

But schools won’t pop up – you gotta collect

And with all that dough, there’s more room for neglect

As bureaucracy gets that big government check

The machine starts running and the cash falls fast

They feast and they spend it and the teachers resent it

As schools get bigger and their finances linger

Not to mention the loans for higher education

Guaranteed by the fed to boost the credit expansion

Education inflation is what you get

When you try to move people like pawns in chess

Regulation kicks in, mining competition

As the broke and young struggle for tuition

But none of it matters, it’s never been better

The men in suit will tell you when they show the score

With the increasing numbers to make you come back for more

If we wish to be compassionate with our fellow man

We must learn to engage in dispassionate analysis

In other words, thinking with our hearts, rather than our brains

Is a surefire method to hurt those whom we wish to help
