They came from a mining town and their music drew from traditional samba rhythms and African diaspora culture.
Their song "África, Velha Matriz! a Vale, É Samba, É Raça, É Raiz!" became a statement about African heritage and the people of Minas Gerais. The lyrics referenced African slavery and exploitation, which drew criticism from conservative quarters. The band faced censorship and legal trouble in their early years for their outspoken material.
They've released samba-enredo songs for carnival parades, including "Samba-Enredo 2015" and "Samba-Enredo 2019 - A Força Que Nos Move." Their music connected with marginalized communities in Brazil, though the existing record of their career appears incomplete.
