Acherontas formed in Greece in 1995. Their music draws from Hellenic mythology and pagan lore, with songs like 'An Ode of Thee Ancient Great Goddess' and 'Lunar Transcendence & The Secret Kiss Of Nut' reflecting these themes.
Their 2000 album 'An Ode to the Ancient Great Goddess' established their approach to black metal. They released 'Theosis' in 2008 and 'Summoning the Nekronomicon' in 2014, the latter featuring guest vocals from members of Mayhem and Marduk.
The band's lineup has included Acherontas V. on vocals and guitars, S. Necrogeist on drums, K.A. on bass, and Aethra on guitars. Their 2019 album 'Acherontic Atavism' marked a return to more raw production.
