ACR, short for A Cor do Som, formed in 1965 as part of Brazil's Tropicalismo movement. Their music pulled from samba, bossa nova, and psychedelic rock, which didn't always sit well with the military government at the time. They kept recording anyway, putting out their first album in 1967 with the track 'Bem Mais' on it.
That song 'Bem Mais' became something of an anthem for the movement, with its mix of catchy melody and trippier arrangements. The band's lineup included Flávio Venturini on vocals and guitar, Ruy Guerra on guitar, Frederyko Ozon on drums, Lírio Ferreira on bass, and Telo Borges on keyboards.
They released several albums through the 1970s, including 'Equinoxe' in 1970 and 'Som Imaginário' in 1973. Their sound kept shifting between experimental psychedelic work and more grounded samba influences.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
