Acróppoly formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1981, started by childhood friends Beto Negrete and Luis Carlos Marim. They put out their first album the following year. The group's sound pulled from samba, funk, and rock, and they worked with other Brazilian musicians like Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa.
Their song 'Meras Confidências' became one of their most recognized tracks. The band's lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being explicit or political, and Beto Negrete's comments at Rock in Rio in 1985 about the military government caused some trouble at the time.
The lineup included Negrete on vocals and guitar, Marim on vocals and bass, Bernadete Visconti on vocals and keyboards, and Gustavo Schroeder on drums. They kept making music through the 1980s, with songs like 'O Porquê' also finding an audience.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
