Actarus formed in New York City in 2004 with Michael Lescelius on vocals and guitar, Matt Conboy on drums, and Jason Blackmore on bass. They released their debut album 'The View from Here' in 2006, which included the song 'A Far Cry' that became one of their better-known tracks.
Their music drew from post-rock, ambient, and shoegaze influences, creating atmospheric soundscapes that didn't fit neatly into conventional categories. Over the next decade they released several more albums including 'Tides' in 2009, 'The Shape of Things' in 2012, 'View of the Pines' in 2015, and 'Dust' in 2018.
