Actemia formed in the late 1960s with guitarist and vocalist Zé Rodrix, bassist Arnaldo Baptista, and drummer Sérgio Dias Baptista. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1970, during a period of political tension in Brazil. The record faced some censorship issues, but the band kept playing live shows and built a following outside the mainstream.
Their 1972 album 'Paranoia' included the track 'Liberdade,' which became one of their most recognized songs. Other songs like 'Não Sorria' and 'Resquícios' also show up in their catalog. The group toured internationally for a while, playing with acts like Pink Floyd and Yes.
Actemia's lineup shifted over time, with Zé Rodrix eventually leaving. The Baptista brothers continued with different musicians. Their music blended progressive rock structures with Brazilian elements, though they never quite fit the commercial mold of their era.
