Activator formed in Athens, Greece around 2005, with Christos Tsagaris on guitar and vocals, Dimitris Athanasiou on bass, Charalambos Karagiannis on drums, and George Tsolakis handling vocals. They came together after the dissolution of another local band called Elysium. Their first album 'Eternal' came out in 2006, followed by 'No Limits' in 2008.
In 2009, the song 'Sparta' became their breakout track, gaining them wider attention across Europe. They followed it with albums like 'The Ultimate Warrior' in 2011 and 'Beyond the Black Hole' in 2015. Around 2013, vocalist George Tsolakis left the band and was replaced by Vasilis Nanos.
Their sound has moved through different metal styles over their releases, from the melodic power metal of their early work to more experimental directions on later albums. They've kept a steady lineup with Tsagaris, Nanos, Athanasiou, and Karagiannis through their most recent album 'The Divine' in 2018.
