Acyr Penna was born in the coastal town of Cabo Frio, where he grew up hearing samba and bossa nova. He started playing his father's guitar early on, and those Brazilian folk traditions stayed with him as he developed his own sound.
Penna maintained the work was original, pointing to his roots in the region's music.
He released albums like "Açúcar e Sal" in 1976 and "Doce Veneno" in 1978, and his 1981 album took its title from that signature song. Other tracks in his catalog include "Winner Of Love" and "Angel."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
