Ad Honorem formed in Finland in 2002, playing melodic death metal. Their lineup includes vocalist Jukka Koskinen, guitarists Toni Veijola and Markku Kivistö, bassist Vesa Luoma, and drummer Janne Jaakkola. The band's name translates to 'honorary' in Latin.
They released their debut album 'Jonka Aika Unohti' in 2006, which included the title track of the same name. Their fourth studio album 'Chapters' came out in 2019. In 2013, vocalist Jukka Koskinen was diagnosed with throat cancer, which forced the band to pause their activities for a time.
Some of their lyrics have drawn attention for dealing with personal and social themes. The song 'Jonka Aika Unohti' addresses mental health, while another track called 'Viha' ('Hatred') takes on violence and intolerance.
