AD Santos

AD Santos came out of Salvador, Bahia in the late 1990s, playing the local axé music that was big there at the time. The band was led by vocalist Danilo Santos, and they had a straightforward, upbeat approach that connected with people. Their song "Vá Pro Bar" became a hit, one of those tracks that just seemed to be everywhere for a while.

They put out albums like "Axé no Coração" in 2001 and "Coisa de Pele" in 2003, sticking with the axé sound even as some critics dismissed it as too commercial. The lineup shifted over time, with members like guitarist Alberto Pita and bassist Marcelo Oliveira coming through. They worked with other Brazilian artists too, including Ivete Sangalo and Daniela Mercury, which helped keep their music in circulation.

Danilo Santos had a strong presence as the frontman, and the band's live shows were known for being high-energy. They weren't trying to reinvent anything, just playing the kind of music that got people dancing. "Vá Pro Bar" remains the song most people remember them by, a straightforward party track that captured a certain moment in Brazilian pop.
