Adalruna formed in Finland in 2004. Their atmospheric black metal draws on the country's forests and folklore, with songs like 'A Purity Divine' and 'Call Of The Solar Blessing' built around soaring melodies and haunting vocals.
Founder Tommi Koivunen writes most of the material. The current lineup includes Jarno Salomaa on bass and vocals, Emil Backman on drums, and vocalist Elina Laiho. They've released albums such as 'The Ascendance' in 2008 and 'Of Purity and Destruction' in 2010.
Some listeners who prefer more traditional black metal have criticized their ethereal approach, but they've kept working in that style. Their 2018 album shares its name with the song 'A Purity Divine'.
