Adiemus

Adiemus is the creation of British composer Karl Jenkins, who started the project in the mid-1990s. The music blends choral vocals with orchestral arrangements, often using made-up syllables instead of traditional lyrics. Their first album, 'Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary,' came out in 1995 and introduced the title track that would become their most recognizable piece.

The sound developed over several albums in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including 'Adiemus II: Cantata Mundi' and 'Adiemus III: Dances of Time.' Jenkins worked with various vocalists like Miriam Stockley and Mary Carewe, creating what he described as a universal language through music. Other tracks like 'Cantus Iteratus' and 'Kayama' followed similar patterns of layered vocals and rhythmic structures.

While some critics questioned the cultural authenticity of Jenkins' approach, the music found its way into television commercials and film soundtracks. The project continued releasing albums into the 2000s, with 'Adiemus V: Vocalise' appearing in 2003 and 'Adiemus VI: The Journey' in 2005. The ensemble remained fluid, with Jenkins as the consistent creative force behind the compositions.
