Adilson Ribeiro was born in Santos in 1946. He started playing guitar and singing early, drawing from bossa nova and samba. In the 1970s, producer João Donato helped him record "Baby Baby," which became his best-known song. That track, along with others like "Só Pra Ela" and "O Som de Belém," gave him a steady following for romantic ballads.
He put out albums through the decade, including the self-titled Adilson Ribeiro in 1972 and the Baby Baby LP in 1974. His recordings often featured musicians like guitarist Sérgio Toutain, bassist Ivan Bessa, and drummer Roberto Ribeiro. The 1980s brought plagiarism claims that he denied, though he kept working.
Ribeiro's voice stayed gentle and direct, suited to love songs. He didn't chase trends much, sticking to a style that felt familiar to Brazilian listeners.
