ADL Plataforma D formed in 1995 as a hip-hop collective from Lisbon's Marvila district. The group included Valete on vocals, Sam the Kid rapping, Chullage handling DJ and production duties, and the Beatbombers DJ duo. Their debut album 'ADL 100 Modos de Morrer (100 Ways to Die)' came out in 1996, followed by 'Game Over' in 1999.
They released '7 de Mateus' in 2000, which became one of their better-known tracks. Other songs like 'A Gente Sente' and 'Filho' show their range across different moods and subjects. The group worked in Portuguese hip-hop when it was still finding its audience, and they sometimes incorporated English into their lyrics.
ADL Plataforma D faced some criticism from mainstream media outlets that weren't familiar with hip-hop as a form. They kept making music regardless, with Chullage's production providing the foundation for their sound. Their work includes tracks about childhood and family alongside more direct social commentary.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
