The Adolescents formed in Orange County, California in 1980 with Tony Cadena on vocals, Steve Soto on guitar, Frank Agnew on bass, and Peter Pan on drums. Their first album came out in 1981, and songs like 'Amoeba' and 'Wrecking Crew' became staples of the early American hardcore punk sound.
They put out records fairly steadily through the 80s and 90s, including 'Welcome to Reality' in 1982 and 'Balboa Fun Zone' in 1996. The lineup has shifted over time, but Cadena, Soto, and Agnew have been the consistent core.
Their music stayed rooted in that fast, straightforward punk style they helped establish. They never really chased trends or softened their approach, which kept them connected to the scene they came from.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
