Adorkables

Adorkables came together in Los Angeles, with Marissa Paternoster handling vocals and songwriting, Mike Simmons on guitar, John Griffey II on drums, and Rebecca Bortman on bass. Their song 'Group Home' became an indie rock staple, capturing the kind of energy that felt both scrappy and fully formed.

Their debut album 'Cult Classic' arrived after some time spent touring and putting out music on their own terms. It had a directness that worked, with songs like '1408' and 'Brokenhearted' leaning into Paternoster's particular blend of vulnerability and bite. They followed it with 'Weird Science,' which brought in some electronic textures while keeping the core of their sound intact.

They never really fit a clean mold, which was part of the point. The music held onto that early, wiry guitar work and rhythmic drive, even as they tinkered with the edges on later records. You can hear it in a track like 'Christina Ricci', it's clever and a little off-kilter, but it still feels like them.
